Kenyan coffee season is officially upon us! Kicking things off is Thunguri AA, a classic Kenyan profile with flavors of cranberry, raspberry, and a winey acidity prized in coffees from this region. Prodigal went above and beyond to rush-ship this coffee to us, preserving the quality of this ultra-fresh green coffee.
Established in 1962, the factory occupies an 8-acre plot at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level, benefiting from the fertile foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare ranges. The Thunguri mill serves several surrounding villages, and the cooperative comprises over 6,800 active smallholder farmers, each typically managing about 0.5 acres of land with just 200–300 coffee trees.
The mill employs a traditional wet processing method, involving hand-picking ripe cherries, same-day pulping, fermentation, washing, and sun-drying on raised beds.
Process: Washed
Region: Kirinyaga County, Kenya
Variety: SL-28, K7, Ruiru 11 & Batian
